As an old C coder, it took me a while to grasp how easy it was to switch 2 LEDs on and off using a standalone ESP8266. The ESP8266 code contains nothing about the GPIO pins. It’s all done in the Android App (and secretly with the Blynk.run() command). The Rpi 2 runs as the local Blynk server. Just upload the code here to your ESP8266-01:
Change the necessary parts for Wifi or Ethernet (http://docs.blynk.cc/#blynk-server-how-to-run-local-blynk-server-app-and-sketch-changes), and then assign gp0 and gp2 to two buttons on your Android App. I would never use anything related to Arduino (PIC MCU FTW!), but I had to use the IDE for this. Still exploring this new world… source
